Il Petit Verdot is a variety of grape used in Classic Bordeaux blends, mostly Medoc and it has also come to Bolgheri, where it is very occasionally expressed as a varietal wine for its harsh and rough temper. However, we took up the challenge and gave birth to:
Maurizio Fuselli
This is a Petit Verdot selection of our Estate vineyard, planted in 1998 by Maurizio. The wine is his latest effort, driven by Maurizio’s personal passion for varietal wines, even with a grape so impetuous and hard to tame.
Bolgheri
Bolgheri is famous throughout the world for its Cabernet Sauvignon, Franc and Merlot. These vines, give here the best of their potentials, thank to highly vocated soil and climate.
Maurizio Fuselli is the clear evidence of Petit Verdot harmoniously meeting Bolgheri Terroir, thus expressing strength, character and originality.
This grape can produce very structured wines, given its superior endowment of polyphenols but the wines are often without balance and proportion.
Here we created a powerful, rich, however elegant and balanced wine, expression of our Bolgheri terroir, through careful and specific vine nurturing and cellar vinification processes.
After many years of experimentation, I understood how to handle this variety, through the green harvest and “defoliation” (leaf thinning) controlling vegetative growth and vigour, trying to achieve a proper balance between crop and solar radiation aiming to the optimal phenolic maturity.
After several harvests, all of them bringing the required quality with silky and thick tannins, 2016 was the first bottled Vintage. As 2017 Vintage was marked by the same great and natural excellence, we produced the content of 6 barriques as limited edition, bottled as follows:
2017 Vintage will be commercialized in April 2020 as follows:
