Once again, our Bolgheri D.O.C. they obtain important international recognition. This time Monica Larner, taster for Robert Parker – Wine Advocate, tasted our wines and decided on the following:
- Marchesale 2018, 91 points: “The Terre del Marchesato 2018 Bolgheri Superiore Marchesale ismostly Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller parts Merlot andPetit Verdot. I tasted this wine next to the 2019 vintage and prefer thefreshness and the dark fruit tones that come through in this sample.This is a more complete expression with dried blackberry and plumbacked by garden herb and peppercorn. The wine is a bit smoother inthe palate too“;
- Papeo 2021, 91 points: “Now part of the Bolgheri Bianco appellation with 1.5 hectares of 23-year-old vines in loose clay soils, the Terre del Marchesato 2021Bolgheri Bianco Papeo is a pure expression of Vermentino that issubmitted to elaborate winemaking. It is fermented in oak with fivedays of skin contact and later ages on the lees in steel vat for fivemonths. As expected, the wine shows a medium-rich texture withheavier tropical notes, Golden Delicious apple and sweet honeysuckle.With 12,000 bottles made, this golden-hued wine would pair withbarbecued or fried seafood“;
- Marchesale 2019, 90 points: “The 2019 Bolgheri Superiore Marchesale is 50% Syrah, 30% CabernetSauvignon, 15% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. Only 5,000 bottles weremade. Between this vintage and the 2018 that I also tasted at thesame time, I prefer the 2018. This edition has a green element withchard or garden herb along with leather, forest floor and autumnalleaf. The fruit is removed far at the back. This is a full-bodied wine witha hint of astringency on the close. Fermentation occurs in conical vatswith manual punch-downs, and the wine is aged in French oak for 18months“;
- Papeo 2020, 90 points: “The 2020 Bolgheri Bianco Papeo (a pure expression of Vermentinothat is now part of the Bolgheri appellation) is a rich and medium-bodied Tuscan white. It opens to a bright golden color and fragrantaromas of honey, beeswax and tropical fruit. That extra intensitycomes from some brief skin maceration in oak that the Vermentinogrape withstands especially well. This is a 10,000-bottle production“.
